Lent Without a Lot of Things

Was it really four years ago that I wrote a post called "Lent Without Words?"  Wow.  Time flies when one is steeping slowly into a form of prayer and meditation that lets go of the limitations language places on things like God, and Lent, and self.

Lent this year consists of two words: Release, and Abide.

Release: letting go of prayer forms, and inner chatter, that self-monologue that typically (for me) consists of puzzling over that day's to-do list.  Releasing the need to accomplish anything during morning meditation.  Releasing the head-trips that try to dictate who I am and how I show up in the world.  Releasing the need to get everything right, because whatever I do, it won't always be right.

Abide: the reason for release is in order to abide.  Abide in a space of openness.  Abide in this moment, without planning, or analyzing, or intending anything.  Abide as one with Christ.

It will be a blessing to release whatever is ready to fall away this holy season, and to abide with the One who released all on behalf of the human community.
